Indian actor Manoj Kumar, known for roles in Hindi language films with patriotic themes, is dead at the age of 87.
Kumar died in Mumbai due to complications related to Friday, his son Kuncal Goswami told the Indian Ani news agency.
“He had health -related issues for a long time. It is God’s grace that he was quietly offering this world. His cremation will take place tomorrow (Saturday),” Goswami said.
Throughout his career, Kumar was known as acting and sometimes directed by films that had to focus on unity and national pride. He was often referred to as “Bharat” Kumar, a reference to the ancient Sanskrit name for India.
Born in Harikrishan Goswami, he renamed himself as Bollywood traditions by taking the name Manoj Kumar.
He made his debut at the Indian cinema in the late fifties and continued the star in several films, many with patriotic themes, including Upkar (1967), Purab Aur Pachhim (1970) and Krant (1981).
Kumar received several national awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor of India in cinema.
He was also a member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-Nacer Bharatiya Janata (BJP). Modi led his condolences, calling Kumar’s “icon” of Indian cinema and saying that his works “lit the spirit of national pride and will continue to inspire generations.”
Indian President, Droupadi, posted Murma X that he was “saddened by the disappearance of the legendary actor and filmmaker.”
“He has left indelible in Indian cinema,” she wrote.
In his dignity, Bollywood actor Axy Kumar said he “grew up from his learning, that there is no emotion such as love and pride in our country.”
“And if we do not take the actors to manage this emotion, who will do it? Such a great person and one of the biggest property of our fraternity,” Aakshay Kumar posted X.
