Conor Benn has now been given permission to fight UKAD, having decided not to appeal the NADP’s decision to drop the charges. The 28-year-old Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) can now continue his career in Great Britain. He no longer faces a ban and can continue fighting without restrictions.
While this is a positive for Ben on the surface, it doesn’t guarantee success against top fighters, even those with inflated ranks like Chris Eubank Jr. Benn is expected to hastily arrange a fight with Eubank Jr. or possibly the WBC Light Heavyweight Champion Mario Barrios.
The chances of Ben beating Eubank Jr. or Barrios are pretty slim because he hasn’t shown the same power he had before his two-year suspension.
British fans are still in love with Conor Benn despite never beating a top contender during his eight-year career. He is popular because he is the son of the famous British fighter Nigel Benn, and this is very much in the UK. If you are the son of a famous boxer, that automatically puts them above talented fighters. It’s a celebrity type thing.
British boxing fans are bad need a star to worshipand Benn is about the best I can hope for right now. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are old and almost done, only hanging on because of their past achievements.
Benn’s last six wins:
– Peter Dobson
– Rodolfo Orozco
– Chris Van Herde
– Chris Algieri
– Adrian Granados
– Samuel Vargas
If promoter Eddie Hearn uses his cunning matchmaking expertise, he can maneuver Ben to prevent him from being beaten repeatedly to help bring in the money for the next three to five years. For Hearn to do that, he would have to forget about comparing Benn vs. Eubank Jr. because he would probably find him out. 35-year-old Eubank Jr. He is NOT a real world class fighter, but he is still good enough to beat a Connor Benn level fighter.
If you’re Hearn, you need to tell the public that Benn needs an adjustment to shake off the cobwebs and focus on pairing him with fringe contenders until he spots a weak champion or an empty belt with a contender waiting in line.
Winning the world title will validate Ben in the eyes of the British public, but not American fans. They have their eyes open and know what Ben is, and they won’t waste time watching his struggles.
