Stout iron gun boomed in farmers in the countryside in Prince Edward County, Ont.
During the formation of a smoking barrel, there is a dozen members of the Canadian fencing infantry, dressed in hard -to -precise uniforms. Some have muskets, others have FIFE and drums.
For decades, the group has repeatedly introduced significant battles and moments from the War of 1812. The United States declared war on the UK at that time due to trade clashes and intervention, as well as the forced calling of American Navy.
During the war, the Americans tried to welcome Britain’s land in Canada, but were greeted with firm resistance from Britain, Canada, Métis and indigenous militants.
Fence has represented their regiment in Europe and deeply “enemy territory” in the United States to commemorate many notebooks. The group usually goes to New York in February to help restore Britain’s victory in Ogdensburg battle.
But this year they remained.
“All of our members are quite good for Canadians, and many of them are very angry, as many Canadians are about the situation and they are very hesitant to go across the border,” said David Moore, who acts as a Canadian rat, also known as Fencing.
True, the Canadian dollar has not helped, but US President Donald Trump’s conversation about Canada is 51.
Watch These 1812 War repeated twice thinking about the title in the state:
“There have been events in countries, New York and Michigan and so on, and everyone has said,” No, I think we will pass and wait and see how it all play to see if the rhetoric disappears, “” said Moore.
Many of the Fenci have deep roots in this southeastern part of Ontario with their ancestors, who fought for the British in the war in 1812.
“My family had properties from Americans before. So it’s my concern (about crossing the border),” said the Shout Finnegan, who tracks the roots of his family in the area before the American Revolution.
Donald Trump repeatedly referred to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about “governor” and insisted that Canada only works as a country. ” Trump has also called the Canadian -US border as an “artificial line”.
Finnegan said the annexation conversation was “pretty excited”, taking into account that we helped them during and after September 11, “referring to the fact that more than 200 flights were diverted to Canada after the US airspace was closed in response to the Al-Qaeda attack on 11 September 2001. Canada thousands of passengers trapped until it was safe for normal activities.
“We intensified to help them on time, and that’s quite a big thanks to us: they want to take over us. So, like many Canadians, it’s too dead a body feeling.”
John Osinsky, the War of 1812, who lives, lives in Middleburg, New York, experiences separation from his Canadian friends.
“Oh, we missed Fen,” he said. “We need each other. Here we can’t say our stories, mutual stories. We can’t say them without each other.”
Osinski, who often represents the New York Military Unit, which volunteered to voluntarily in the Federal Service in December 1812, said he was optimistic that the current tension between countries would be resolved.
“We have experienced this kind of things in our history in the past. And 1812 war really did nothing except for more destruction. And people on the border, on both sides, didn’t really support what happened,” he said.
“I do not suspect that (Trump’s administration) is trying to make Canada 51,” he said. “But (notion) creates difficult times and we just had to go through.”
Craig Russell, another longtime American fencer friend, who often plays the role of Clinton County, NY, shares the role of a militia officer with this mood.
“I’m 20 miles from the border,” he said. “I played in Tuba’s concert group in Montreal, in the summer group. I do a lot in both countries, culturally and historically.”
“My thing is that we will go through all this thing and move on. It’s just a crisis that doesn’t have to be,” Russell said.
Friends hope the tension until America celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Independence War of 2026, perhaps even long before.
In the meantime, Fence is committed to marking important battles on the Canadian border.
Triform application and celebration of national history have now become particularly important masonry.
“If you are not actively applying for your inheritance, it is lost,” Moore said. “When the question arises, if we should join the states? Well, if you do not know the country you are, it is difficult for you to answer it.
“But if you know your history, if you know what happened here, then I think you are probably saying that this is a country worth defending – our history, our people – and keep independent.”
