The senior European Union official on Tuesday warned the US that the world’s largest trading block “has a lot of cards” when it comes to the new tariffs of Trump’s administration and has a good plan to take revenge if it is forced.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday has promised to introduce taxes on imports from other countries. He says they will release the US from reliance on foreign goods.
He has promised to impose “mutual” tariffs to meet the duties that other countries collect from US products back up on April 2 “Release Day.”
“Europe has not begun this confrontation. We do not always want to take revenge, but if necessary, we have a strong plan to take revenge and we will use it,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told EU legislators.

“Europe has many cards, from trade to technology to the size of our market. But this power is also based on our readiness to make strict anti -voltages when needed. All tools are on the table,” Von Der Leyen said in a European Parliament session in Strasbourg, France.
The Commission is already planning to oblige US goods worth about $ 28 billion in mid -April, responding to Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs. The EU’s responsibilities will be focused on steel and aluminum products, as well as textiles, home appliances and agricultural goods.
Much is still unknown about how Trump’s fees will actually be implemented, especially “mutual” tariffs, and the EU wants to assess their impact before the retaliation.
“So many Europeans feel completely miserable about the United States’ statement,” said von der Lejen. “These are the largest and most prosperous trade relationships around the world. It would be better for us all if we could find a constructive solution.”
